WIT-NC invites you to join us at Adobe’s World Headquarters in San Jose for a presentation from Aaron Applebaum,  international trade lawyer at Sidley Austin LLP in Washington, DC,  and local San Francisco renowned George Tuttle III, from Law Offices of George R. Tuttle, A.P.C. These two opposing coast attorneys will provide an update on hot topics in international trade, including enforcement trends and how the upcoming presidential election stands to impact U.S. trade policy.

Aaron will offer the East Coast Washington, DC perspective, bringing the Hill to you (no travel on your part required) and George will offer the West Coast San Francisco perspective, analyzing the impact on Pacific Rim trade. These two will battle it out and may the best Coast win.

Topics will include:

• Major paradigm shift taking place in international trade from liberalization to protecting domestic economies with a deep dive into examples—301, 232, UFPLA etc., as well as provide a few enforcement related examples.

Speakers:
Aaron M. Applebaum, Senior Managing Associate, Sidley Austin LLP
Based in Washington, DC, Aaron is a lawyer in the International Trade practice at the law firm Sidley Austin LLP.  For nearly a decade, Aaron has been advising companies and trade associations on international trade and customs law.  He advises clients on all substantive matters handled by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), including complex customs valuation matters, free trade agreement qualification, tariff classification, country of origin, and forced labor issues.  Aaron helps clients develop and implement effective compliance programs, navigate customs audits, and respond to government enforcement actions.  In recent years, much of his practice has involved advising clients on issues relating to Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 (often referred to as the “Section 301 China tariffs”) and the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA).

Prior to joining Sidley, Aaron was an in-house lawyer at Logitech Inc. in Fremont, CA, where he advised the company on international trade compliance issues and was a proud member of WIT-NC.

George Tuttle, III, Trade Attorney at Tuttle Law Offices
30+ years experience advising clients and litigating issues relating to Customs and trade matters, including: classification, valuation, country-of-origin, special duty exemptions, NAFTA, drawback, regulatory audits and compliance assessments, penalties related to customs laws and compliance issues. Assists clients in establishing and improving internal import compliance programs and audits.

Export Administration Regulations of Bureau of Industry and Security, Commerce Department, Assets Control and Sanctions Regulations of Office of Foreign Assets Control, Treasury Department. Assists in establishing and improving internal export compliance programs, provides or obtains product classifications and jurisdiction determinations, assists in obtaining licenses and advising on appropriate licenses or exceptions, representation before government agencies in civil penalty cases. .
