Chairwoman
Angela Steen - Director, International Trade Services - Novell, Inc.
Angela Steen has been Director of International Trade Services at Novell, Inc. for the past ten years. Her role as director includes responsibility for overseeing the development and execution of corporate trade policies and guidelines to ensure that Novell's global business operations are compliant with U.S. and international trade laws. During her tenure at Novell, she served on the Regulations and Procedures Technical Advisory Committee (RPTAC) and held the co-chair position for the Encryption Sub-Committee. While on the RPTAC, she participated in the re-write of the Export Administration Regulations. Angela has been an active member on the Board of Directors for WIT-NC for the past four years. She served as Treasurer in 2003, President in 2004 and as Chairman in 2005 and 2006. Angela also served as Treasurer for the 2006 OWIT Conference held in San Francisco.

 

President
Beth Peterson - President - BPE, Inc.
Beth Peterson is the President of Beth Peterson Enterprises, a consulting firm for global multi-national shippers and transportation providers, specializing in global trade management and supply chain planning. Prior to founding Beth Peterson Enterprises, Beth was vice president of Marketing for Open Harbor where she was charged with leading the company's marketing and solutions initiatives. Prior to Open Harbor, Beth served as the vice president of product strategy for Qiva, Inc. Prior to this, Peterson managed Hewlett PackardĀ“s U.S. import operations as the U.S. import operations manager and DHL Airways, Inc. where she was a logistics services manager. Beth has over 19 years experience in the logistics and international transportation business. She offers additional domain expertise as a licensed customs broker. Beth served as Secretary and Webmaster for WIT-NC from 2000 to 2004 and as President of WIT-NC in 2005 and 2006. Beth was awarded OWIT Member of the Year for 2006.

 

Vice President
Andrea Appell - Global Origin and Compliance - Hewlett Packard
Andrea Appell works for Hewlett Packard in Global Trade / Customs Compliance and Policy. Andrea manages country of origin issues as well as operational compliance. Her responsibilities also cover non-routine classification and valuation. Andrea's previous work experience includes positions at FedEx Trade Networks as Manager of the US, Latin American, and European preferential trade programs; at Qiva Inc. as Product Manager of Qiva's automated global trade tools; and as a consultant for Urusan Consulting. She is a licensed customs broker, speaks both Spanish and Romanian, and has been active in WIT-NC since 2002, including serving as Membership Co-Director in 2004 and Vice President in 2005.

 

Secretary & OWIT Representative
Adonica Wada - Partner - Serko Simon Gluck & Kane LLP
Adonica-Jo R. Wada is a partner in the West coast office of Serko & Simon, LLP. Ms. Wada's practice is focused in Customs and International Trade Law and in representing companies involving a wide range of import and export related matters pertaining to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection and other governmental agencies. She received her J.D. in 1993 from the Chicago-Kent College of Law, and B.A.s in English and History in 1990 from Western Washington University. Ms. Wada has been the Programs Director for WIT-NC in 2002 and Vice President in 2003 and 2004 and has served as Secretary and OWIT Representative in 2005.

 

Treasurer
Lynn Wallace - International Trade Services Manager - Novell, Inc.
Lynn Wallace is Novell's Export Manager and responsible for the export licensing and classification of Novell's products. Prior to Novell, Lynn worked in Tandem's legal department and later served as Trade Manager for the Tandem division of Compaq Computer Corporation. Lynn's trade career has focused on encryption technology. Prior to her career in trade, Lynn was a legal assistant/paralegal. Lynn is a member of the Alliance for Network Security and has represented Compaq and Novell at AeA. Lynn was a charter member of the volunteer board at Tandem and has served as President and Secretary on a child development board, as Secretary of the Santa Clara Historical Society, and as a member at large on the Hakone Gardens board. Lynn served WIT-NC as Assistant Treasurer in 2004 and Treasurer in 2005.

Michino Gustafson - International Trade Compliance Specialist - Hitachi Data Systems Corporation
Michino Gustafson works for Hitachi Data Systems in Santa Clara as International Trade Compliance Specialist, Global Trade Compliance Group within the Legal Affairs Department. Michino has developed and implemented the ISO program that complements the existing Export Management Systems; developed and launched in-house web based on-line training program for corporate and overseas subsidiaries; and developed internal audit and training programs. Before joining the Global Trade Compliance Group in 2002, she was Contracts Administration Manager for Hitachi Data Systems' Legal Affairs Department. Prior to joining Hitachi Data Systems in Santa Clara, Michino worked for the Computer Division of Hitachi America, Ltd. in Brisbane and held a number of positions in Sales, Marketing and Contracts Administration. Michino is a graduate of the Arizona State University where she earned her B.S. degree in marketing. She is also a Notary for the State of California.

Christine Stokes - CargoSmart
Christine Stokes has worked in the international trade business for four years at CargoSmart Limited where she is responsible for developing and executing marketing programs. CargoSmart's application and integration services help shippers plan, process, monitor, and share their ocean shipment information more efficiently. Before CargoSmart, Christine worked at Oracle Corporation for five years. Her roles included marketing manager of customer programs and events coordinator in the server technologies division. She received an M.B.A. degree from NYU Stern School of Business and a B.A. degree in psychology from Pitzer College.

Elia Quiros - Hitachi Global Storage Technologies
Elia Quiros is a Senior Export Compliance Analyst at Hitachi Global Storage Technologies. She is responsible for supporting the global export/import compliance program for other Hitachi entities in Asia Pacific and Europe. She enjoys the experience of the contact with people from all over the world and being able to assist and meet long-distance colleagues face to face and learn about their cultures, languages, and the differences (and similarities) to our way of doing business. As Event Coordinator, Elia hopes to continue assisting the WIT-NC Board in providing excellent programs and to provide the environment to enable its members to enjoy quality events in a comfortable and professional atmosphere. Elia has served as Assistant Treasurer for WIT-NC in 2003 and 2004 and as Event Coordinator in 2005.

Renee Roe - Global Trade Compliance Officer - Fortinet, Inc.
Renee Roe is currently the Global Trade Compliance Officer for Fortinet where she is responsible for development of their global trade compliance program. Prior to Fortinet, Renee was Global Trade & Compliance Manager at Extreme Networks, Inc. where she also oversaw development and execution of corporate trade compliance policies and guidelines. At Extreme she also held various positions during their start up phase, including Global Traffic & Logistics Manager. Earlier in her career she has held management positions in import, consulting, and international transportation, and has also been a small international business owner. She holds an undergraduate degree in International Management, has been a WIT corporate member for two years, and and was a WIT-NC Membership Committee member in 2004.

 

Membership Co-Director
Judy Studebaker - Global Trade Manager - Spansion L.L.C.
Judy Studebaker currently holds the position of Global Trade Manager at Spansion L.L.C. responsible for trade compliance on a global level. Prior to Spansion, Judy held several positions at Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) over a period of 18+ years. These positions included Sr. Export Compliance Specialist and Import Specialist in the Global Trade Department, as well as Lane Segment Analyst responsible for domestic and international transportation in the Global Transportation Department. Before becoming WIT-NC Membership Co-Director in 2005, Judy served as a Membership Committee member during 2004.

 

Volunteer Director
Monika Sandman - President - URUSAN Consulting
Monika Sandman is the principal of URUSAN Consulting, a firm providing international trade consulting services since 1991. As a licensed customs broker and holder of national permit, she leads a team of expert consultants to major corporations in the areas of trade compliance. In the last few years, she expanded into automation tools development to provide trade solutions. Her client roster includes: Applied Materials, Cisco Systems, Varian Medical, NUMMI, etc.

Ms. Sandman has lectured in various professional forums on import compliance. She has taught at the University of California Santa Cruz, Extension Silicon Valley, a course on "Expanding Markets Internationally: A Practical Guide to Exporting and Importing." Her experience in the international trade arena spans over 20 years, four languages and three continents.

 

OWIT Annual Conference Director
Janine Gold - Global Solutions Developer, United Parcel Service, Inc.
Janine Gold is a Global Solutions Developer with United Parcel Service, Inc. In this position, she is responsible for developing customized business solutions for UPS' global clients in the area of supply chain planning and execution which includes logistics, brokerage, and compliance. She began her career with UPS in international sales. Prior to joining UPS, Janine was the International Transportation Manager for Micron Electronics, Inc. where she managed all global transportation as well as implemented and managed Micron's Customs Compliance Department. Janine has been a member of WIT-NC for two years and is currently the Marketing Director on the 2005 Board of Directors. She looks forward to her continued involvement with WIT-NC in helping to promote WIT-NC's tremendous value as a professional organization in the international trade community.
